Santana Row's Fashion Night Out 2012

Several classmates and I were given an amazing opportunity on Thursday night to be a part of the beauty team (Along with Atelier Aveda) for Santana Row's fashion night out!! Students and professionals from Atelier did hair and make-up for a group of models that were showcasing designs by Project Runway's Michael Costello. I only participated in hair styling. The hair style itself was really simple-- a slicked-back, braided bun with a deep side part. Here are some pictures I found of my model, Victoria!

Ahhhh, it was so much fun! It was really cool to see the whole concept come together; all of the models with the same look, in all of the different designs by Michael Costello. I never thought i'd like doing runway work, but now I might reconsider! Now to practice my upstyling....

Also, I do not own these photos:

Birthday Hairrrrcut.

So I met an awesome client yesterday named My!

It was her birthday, and she was looking for a change.

Here's her hair before....

(Stolen from her facebook. Her hair was a good 5 inches longer than this before we cut it.)

And after!!

I cut the whole thing, including the perimeter, with a razor. The layers are super short (fall at about eye level). This was totally different than the cuts I'm used to doing at school (inch off the bottom, long stationary layers...etc). I had a really great time with this.

Thanks My! Happy birthday!

Playing with Hair Color

I got to play with hair color in class today, which was super cool. It's very much like painting...only your outcome is three-dimensional.

With the help of Redken's color fusion, I took Dolly from a "blah" brown...

To red!

I used about four different formulations in total, but I know for the very bright red near the front and crown area I used a 7Cc mixed with equal parts Red High Fusion and 30 vol. Smokin! I really want to do this on myself!

Santa Cruz Competition!

Rebecca, Kristie, Cherice and I competed in Santa Cruz's Nino Faggiano Competition! Each team (made up of current cosmetology students) was given 90 minutes to complete hair, make-up, and nails on their model.... while judges and spectators watched. It was pretty nerve wracking.

Anyway, our theme was... UNICORN! Aweeeesome. Rebecca did Hair, Cherice did make-up, I did nails, and Kristie was our lovely model!

Here are some Pictures of Kristie after judging...

AND, here is a close up of the nails I created for our Unicorn theme. They turned out pretty crazy! A little too crazy for the judges, though... oh well!

We took first place in hair, and 3rd place overall... Yay! It was a lot of fun!!

Self-Portrait/Old Sketchbook Pages

I finally finished a self-portrait I started shortly after my surgery... I got tired of looking at it unfinished. It's kinda gruesome and I'm not sure what I'll do with it now that it's done. I've never actually painted a self-port before, but I thought that I looked super weird and that it would be worth documenting.

Acrylic, gouache, pencil, & ink on wood:

And here are some older sketchbook pages I dug up. Hopefully I'll have some new sketchbook stuff to post soon!

Cult 28 Gift Exchange V.2

A few months ago we had our Second Annual Secret Santa style gift exchange. This year we had a theme; Tarot. Everyone was assigned a random card, and it was really awesome seeing all the work displayed in one gallery.

I was assigned The Star. Unfortunately I did not get a very good picture of the piece I did..

And here are some even worse pictures of it displayed in the gallery... haha

Getting back into this..

Damn, it's been a while since my last update. I'm going to really start making an effort to post stuff on here...

Here are a couple pages from my sketchbook, done a few days before my accident.

I had planned on plein-air painting all last summer, and these were the only two I ever got the chance to complete.
